KGF - Policies

Apart from its general roles as coordinator or facilitator, the KGF can provide financial support primarily for

  • scientific events that are recognized as being part of basic and applied research areas within the scope of interest of all or several of the KGF member companies, provided that such events
    • take place in Switzerland or nearby regions, and
    • contain a substantial and active participation by Swiss-based scientists.

The KGF may provide joint donations for other matters in the mentioned research areas, such as:

  • projects, programs, and special events for education and further development of students and scientists,
  • starting grants for new professorships at Swiss Universities or the Federal Institutes of Technology,
  • special lecture series organized by Swiss research groups or institutions, under the provision that scientists from the KGF member companies are offered free access to these lectures.

Note: Donations are typically not given for

  • matters that are considered to belong to the responsibilities of governments or corporate bodies of academic institutions,
  • infrastructural or personnel matters of research institutions (e.g., standard equipment, restructuring projects, positions),
  • specific research projects or joint ventures, which are dealt with by the member companies separately,
  • scientific publications,
  • production costs for items of commercial interest (e.g., editing or printing of books).

As the financial capabilities of the KGF are limited, there is no guarantee of support even if a request to the KGF formally meets with all premises of its policies, and certain decisions by the KGF may need further approval by the respective decision bodies of the individual member companies.
